World Record Holder Brian Reynolds
As the current world-record holder in the half marathon for double-below-the-knee amputees, Brian Reynolds is more than a great athlete. He's resilient, grounded, optimistic, and a husband and father of two.
Running the 2019 United Airlines New York City Half Marathon, Hive athlete Brian Reynold’s 1:19:43 finish time set the new world best for double below-the-knee amputees. In August, he beat his own record in Reykjavik, Iceland with a time of 1:18:42! As the current world-record holder in the half marathon for double-below-the-knee amputees, he is more than a great athlete. He’s resilient, grounded, optimistic, and a husband and father of two.
Host David Willey talks with Brian about the obstacles he, and other amputee athletes, face in order to compete. Even with these challenges, Brian emphasizes all the good that came out of his medical nightmare.
As a former marathon world record holder, Brian hopes to break the current world record held by Mark Cheseto. This feat would make him only the third double amputee of any kind to ever break 3 hours. He’s been chasing this goal for two years.
You will come away from this episode feeling inspired to endure any difficulties that threaten your own athletic goals.
Join us after Brian’s interview for Part 1 of our first field-reported segment. It captures the unique experience of taking part in one of the most challenging, idiosyncratic sporting events in America— RAGBRAI, a weeklong cycling pilgrimage across the entire state of Iowa.
Honey Stinger’s Isaac Madsen was on the ground fueling these ambitious athletes with chews, waffles, and gels. During Isaac’s adventure across Iowa, he spoke with riders about why they ride RAGBRAI and how they fuel.
