After running ultras for only two years Anna Mae Flynn has already made a name for herself. We were able to hear a little bit more about why she runs. Read on!

Ultra Trail Running
Do you compete on a team or for a sponsor?
I compete for Hoka One One, my sponsor (so thankful).
What drives you to do what you do?
I truly enjoy running uphill and making my way to the top of a peak. I race because the whole process pushes me to be my best every day.
Favorite race you have ever competed in?
Most likely Speedgoat 50k because of the terrain and because the overall course profile is mountainous and really fun. It was one of those races where I put it all out on the course. I also really look up to the race director, Karl Meltzer.
*In 2017, Anna Mae placed First Overall Female while setting a new course record
Place or event on your bucket list:
Hmmm…good question. I love Marble, so I really don’t want to go anywhere most of the time, haha.
Greatest personal accomplishment
Transitioning from my life in Lake Tahoe to my home here in Marble, Colorado, in 2017. This move was one of the hardest transitions for many reasons, and through it all I grew so much. I now have a beautiful home in Marble, an amazing job, a running sponsorship through Hoka and a loving man in my life, Paul Hamilton.
Favorite Honey Stinger product and flavor?
Gluten Free Organic Wildflower Honey Waffle
I think it’s best to make sure you eat a descent breakfast and are hydrated before heading out into the mountains. I tend to eat my Stinger right before the last climb to the summit or on the way back down from a summit. Honey Stinger really helps keep the blood sugar balanced and the body charged all day.
Favorite non sport-related hobby/activity and why?
Dancing. I was a competitive ballerina in my youth, and it was very structured. Now I like to dance and move freely without boundaries, and often times it is my way of expressing emotions.
Where can we find you when you’re not running or dancing?
Teaching. I am a math and science teacher for a quaint charter school in town. I am truly blessed.
Keep up with Anna Mae…
